Pengal Valvurimai Sangam organised a Women Safety Awareness Meeting and Self-Defence Training session, bringing together women from across the community to learn practical safety skills and understand their legal rights. The session combined open discussion with hands-on self-defence demonstrations led by trained instructors.

Participants ranged from students to working women and homemakers, all eager to build confidence and awareness around personal safety. The program covered situational awareness, basic self-defence moves, and the legal protections available to women facing harassment or violence, along with guidance on how and where to seek help.

Every woman deserves to feel safe, informed, and confident, whether she is at home, at work, or out in her community. Awareness and preparedness are the first steps toward that safety.

Our team walked participants through real-world scenarios and answered questions about reporting incidents, accessing legal aid, and finding support through PVS. The response was overwhelming, with many participants requesting follow-up sessions for their neighbourhoods and workplaces.

What the session covered

The awareness meeting was designed to be practical and easy to apply in daily life, focusing on both physical safety techniques and knowledge of legal rights and resources.

  • Basic self-defence moves that can be used in real, close-contact situations
  • Recognising early warning signs and staying alert in public spaces
  • Understanding legal protections against harassment, domestic violence, and workplace misconduct
  • How to file a complaint and where to seek immediate help
  • Building a support network with neighbours, colleagues, and local authorities

This session is part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring a safe and dignified life for every woman in Tamil Nadu. We are already planning follow-up training sessions in nearby communities based on the strong interest shown by participants.
